Chef Martin Yan Cooking Demo : If Yan can cook, so can you!

Meeting Chef Martin Yan in person was something I didn't expect to at all. With his tag line of 'If Yan can cook, so can you.' He has touched millions with his cooking shows and demonstrations, including me. I remembered waking up on weekends and switching on tv and there Chef Yan will be, with his steamers and woks, cooking up a storm.

He's a chef with a great personality and with years of cooking under his belt, he's eager to share not boast. Watching his cooking demonstration was an interesting and exhilarating experience. He started off with showing us his knife skills that are doable at home too, that's of course, with practice.
He showed us basic cutting skills such as dicing, julienne, slicing and simple plating decorations that Chinese restaurants often use. It was really fun to watch and I learned a lot!
Can you guess what he's doing with the cucumber slices?
It even holds at a 45 degree angle.
And with a tap on the table, it becomes a flat ring.
We were shown how to de-bone a chicken in less than 5 minutes, cool.

Deep Fried / Seared Fish Fillet With Egg White Sauce
Chef Yan then thought of giving a little twist to the planned Seared Fish Fillet With Egg White Sauce recipe and showed us a deep fried version instead.

The demonstration by Chef Yan was not only engaging but informative and exciting as well! I truly enjoyed myself.

If you're hankering for more of Chef Martin Yan's cooking, be sure to catch him on True Passion - Martin Yan, 10 to 14 September 2012, at 7.30pm. (An AFC Original Production)

Many thanks to Asian Food Channel for this memorable experience!
